Cody Carpenter, mladi je glazbenik iz Los Angelesa te sin poznatog redatelja Johna Carpentera, za Solin Live govori o svojim projektima, radu s ocem, glazbenicima s kojima je surađivao te o budućim projektima.

So let’s start with your early influences from your music-oriented family: your father the movie director, John Carpenter who is also know as movie composer and grandfather Howard Carpenter was violinist. I read somewhere that you are influenced by prog-rock bands like Genesis, ELP and ambient musicians like Vangelis and Tangerine Dream.
Yes, my father is a movie composer, his father was a music teacher at Western Kentucky University, and my mother is a singer. I was exposed to the ‘classic’ progressive rock groups like Genesis, ELP etc. when I was in High School, and their music has had a huge influence on me. I was not so much into Vangelis and Tangerine Dream, although I do enjoy their use of synthesizers. I am also heavily influenced by Vince DiCola and the game music I grew up with.
You work with your father on soundtrack for movies like The Vampires and Ghosts Of Mars, as the albums like Lost Themes 1&2 with Daniel Davies and Anthology album with classics of mr. Carpenter. What is it a feel to work on such a masterpieces of movie scores?
Did you collaborated on some other movie or video games soundtracks?
It is always fun to work with my dad and Daniel, and though I wasn’t really that much involved in “Vampires” and “Ghosts of Mars”, the Lost Themes albums were a great pleasure to work on.
I also composed the scores for my father’s episodes, “Cigarette Burns” and “Pro-Life” for the Showtime series Masters of Horror. I have been involved in some video game music.
You are also known as Ludrium, and in your work, we can feel the influence of ambient music like Vangelis. Could you tell us more about Ludrium, how did you get the name? You collaborated on Confrontational’s albums A Dance of Shadows and Kingdom of Night you also collaborated with Jon Of The Shred on compilation album Order Of The Impaled, Ultraboss’s Twilight Samurai on album Kyrie Electron and Beckett’s Air Games’82 on album AirGames Anthology.
Can you tell us more about your collaborations, with whom you would love to collaborate and what is your criteria for collaboration/work with someone?
The name Ludrium doesn’t have any meaning, in the past I simply wanted to use a different name for projects that I didn’t feel comfortable using my personal name. Now, I think I decided that I want to separate my vocal and non-vocal work to Ludrium and Cody Carpenter, respectively.
If I have a good deal of free time, I always enjoy collaborating with artists whose work I enjoy! I don’t really have any criteria other than me having the time and enjoying the artist’s work. It would be amazing to collaborate with Vince DiCola, although I’m not really sure if I could contribute anything worthwhile to his amazing work!
For end, what are your plans for future, whether new album are coming, maybe a tour with your father, would be ever a show in Split, Croatia?
I have a lot of new music in the works! Instrumental stuff, vocal stuff, game music stuff, lots of stuff! No plans for any tours at the moment, but I’m hoping something will happen!

Počnimo sa najranijim utjecajima Vaše glazbeno orijentirane obitelji: otac filmski redatelj, Johna Carpentera koji je također poznat kao filmski skladatelj, a djed Howard Carpenter je bio violinist. Negdje sam pročitao da su na Vas utjecali I prog-rock bendovi poput Genesis, ELP-a i ambijentalnih glazbenika kao što su Vangelis i Tangerine Dream.
Da, moj otac je filmski skladatelj, njegov otac bio je učitelj glazbe na Sveučilištu Western Kentucky, a moja majka je pjevačica( glumica Adrienne Barbeau op.prev.). Bio sam izložen “klasičnim” progresivnim rock grupama kao što su Genesis, ELP i dr. Kada sam bio u srednjoj školi, njihova glazba imala je veliki utjecaj na mene. Nisam bio toliko u Vangelisu i Tangerine Dreamu, iako uživam u njihovoj uporabi sintesajzera. Na mene je jako utjecao Vince DiCola(skladatelj filmske glazbe) i glazba pisana za video igrice uz koje sam odrastao.
Radite sa svojim ocem na soundtracku za filmove poput The Vampires i Ghosts of Mars, kao i albumi poput Lost Themes 1 i 2 s albumom Daniel Davies i Anthology s klasičarima poput gospodina Carpentera. Kakav je osjećaj raditi na takvim filmskim remek-djelima? Jeste li surađivali na nekim drugim filmovima ili videoigrama?
Uvijek je zabavno raditi s mojim ocem i Danielom (Daniel Davies, amer. glazbenik I skladatelj) , a premda nisam baš toliko uključen u “Vampire” i “Ghosts of Mars”, rad na albumu Lost Themes bio je veliki užitak. Također sam skladao za očeve epizode, “Cigarette Burns” i “Pro-Life” za Showtimeove serije Masters of Horror. Bio sam uključen u dio glazbe za videoigre.
Poznati ste i po pseudonimu Ludrium, a u Vašem radu možemo osjetiti utjecaj ambijentalne glazbe poput Vangelisa. Možete li nam reći više o Ludriumu, kako ste dobili ime? Možete li nam reći više o vašim suradnjama, s kojima biste voljeli surađivati i koje su vaše kriterije za suradnju / rad s nekim?
Ime Ludrium nema nikakvog značenja, u prošlosti sam jednostavno želio koristiti drugačije ime za projekte koji nisam osjećao ugodno koristeći moje osobno ime. Sada, mislim da sam odlučio da želim odvajati svoj vokalni i nevokalni rad Ludriuma i Codya Carpentera.
Ako imam puno slobodnog vremena, uvijek uživam u suradnji s umjetnicima u čijem radu i inače uživam! Nemam nikakvih drugih kriterija osim samog sebe kada imam vremena i uživam u nečijem umjetničkom radu. Bilo bi nevjerojatno da surađujemo s Vinceom DiColom, iako nisam siguran mogu li ičim doprinijeti njegovom nevjerojatnom radu!
Za kraj, kakvi su vaši planovi za budućnost, hoće li izaći novi album, možda turneja sa svojim ocem, možda predstavljanje u Splitu, u Hrvatskoj?
Imam puno nove glazbe u nastajanju! Instrumentalne stvari, vokalne stvari, glazba za igru, puno stvari! Trenutačno nema planova za turneju, ali nadam se da će nešto iskrsnuti!
